Bedtime routine

Dallin's bedtime routine is just too funny. I have told Michael that some kids don't love going to bed like Dallin loves going to bed and he just doesn't believe me. So here's the routine: after Dallin has his bath and brushes his teeth, we watch the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (he loves the Choir. He won't watch Sesame Street, but he'll watch the Choir), say prayers, and then he will immediately begin saying goodbye and waving to whomever is in the room (sometimes it is to nobody, sometimes it is to the picture of the Savior on the wall). Then either Michael or I will take him back to his room while singing a song to him (he has recently learned to sing along). Once we reach his room, he flings his body almost out of our arms toward his crib (that is our cue to put him in his bed) and as we try to finish the song, he will push us away from his crib and say "bye-bye!". He will repeat this over and over until we are out of the room. After that, we don't hear another peep from him until the next morning. He does the same thing for his nap during the day. What a little angel.

Pumpkin muffins

I know it's August, but pumpkin bread sounded so good today. I found this recipe on allrecipes.com and altered it a bit to make it healthier (but I did add chocolate chips to half of the batch- yum!). If you're not into the pumpkin thing just yet, try these in a couple of months and let me know how you liked them.

1-2 ripe bananas, mashed
2 eggs
1/3 cup apple sauce
1 1/3 cups canned pumpkin puree
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup oats
3/4 cup white flour
1 cup wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon allspice
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
chocolate chips (I recommend lots)

Add ingredients in order listed, stiring after each one. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. This recipe makes about 16-18 muffins.

Missy's visit

We loved having Missy come visit us this past week! She headed back to Utah on Tuesday to prepare for her 3rd grade class. She will be an amazing teacher- we are so proud of you, Missy!

A much welcomed water break
Dallin loves hats. We put one of his pool floaties on his head and he kept it on for about 15 minutes. It was so funny- he loved wearing it.

A favorite spot: resting on Missy's feet

Bring on the rain!

We are in the midst of monsoon season and we love it! The rain is such a nice break from the Phoenix heat. We had our own little lake in front of our house the other day after a pretty crazy storm (about 6 or 7 inches deep in the middle).
